Moving to Paducah for work

The basics for settling in, whether you're here for six weeks or six years.

Getting around

Paducah sits on I-24 where the Tennessee River meets the Ohio. The DOE site is west of town toward Kevil; the Calvert City plants are about 20 miles east on I-24. Plan for heavier traffic around shift changes near both sites.

Short stays: weeks to a few months

Extended-stay hotels with kitchens and RV parks with full hookups are the easiest options. Ask every place about weekly, monthly and crew rates; they're usually much lower than the nightly price.

Longer stays: several months or more

Furnished monthly rentals and regular leases make more sense. See the furnished rental sites on the DOE Site page, and ask landlords about short lease terms.

Utilities

Inside the City of Paducah, electric service is from Paducah Power System and water from Paducah Water. Outside the city, electric service may be from Jackson Purchase Energy or another provider depending on the address. Ask your landlord or park which providers serve the property.

Avoid rental scams

  • Never wire money or pay with gift cards for a rental you haven't seen.
  • Be wary of listings far below market price or owners who can't show the property.
  • Call businesses at the numbers listed on their own websites.
